This is arguably the worst and simplest mistake guys make when wearing a tie. A loose, flimsy knot that does not fill in the gap between the tie and the collar is a real eyesore, to say the least. Whether you are going for a more advanced knot like the Pratt knot, or a more novice one like the Four-In-Hand, a perfectly tied knot will turn your look from zero to one hundred real quick. This may seem simple, but poorly tied knots are much more common than they should be.
#2. Tie Too Wide
We will preface this by saying, every style and body type calls for a different width...
But with the current fashion trends of fitted suits and an overall sleek and modern look, those wide Ties can really take you back to the 90's. From our experience as Tie experts, a good general rule of thumb is: The broader your chest/upper body the wider the Tie you can sport, on the other hand, Men with more narrow upper bodies can really pull of the skinny tie look!
3. Tie Too Long (or Too Short)
This is a Tie mistake we have all seen one too many times. A Tie that is tied too short or too long can look very comical in many cases. The problem with Ties that are tied too long is that they often make your entire outfit look a bit sloppy and unplanned. On the other end of the spectrum, Ties that are tied too short tend to look a bit clownish. A good general rule of thumb is to have the bottom of the Tie rest right in the middle of your belt (or where your belt would be).
4. Mismatching Patterns and Colors
This mistake is one of the most understandable mistakes that Men make when wearing a Tie, but it is also the one that leads to the most undesirable look. Some of the other mistakes in this list are ones that the average person may not even notice. We could go into all of the details on how it is best to start experimenting with monochromatic color schemes, and how you never want to wear a polka-dot tie with a plaid shirt... OR we could tell you to just go ask the nearest woman in the room? Yep! That is definitely what you should do, they know best.
5. Not Enough Variety
Not to point any fingers here, but we all know that one guy who wears the same exact Tie almost every single day. While this is a great way to keep your morning routine quick and simple, it just gets old. Whether you sport the same Tie every day because it is the only one you like/have, or because you simply don't feel like trying to match other Ties with the right shirt, it is a no go for Tieler. Here at Tieler, we have a huge selection of trendy ties for every occasion at some of the most affordable prices.
